This is one of the rarest Springboks jerseys ever produced — the elusive 1995 Rugby World Cup alternate long sleeve, made by Cotton Traders. Produced as a potential clash jersey for the 1995 Rugby World Cup, this white alternate was prepared for a possible matchup against Ireland, but ultimately never worn during the tournament. As a result, production numbers were extremely limited, making this jersey arguably rarer — and more sought after — than the iconic green home jersey from the same World Cup.
The design is unmistakably mid-1990s: a crisp white cotton body, gold collar and cuffs, embroidered Springbok crest, and the official 1995 Rugby World Cup patch. Inside the collar, the distinctive patterned inlay is a detail collectors look for in authentic Cotton Traders World Cup issues.
This example is the popular long sleeve version. Overall, the jersey presents beautifully, with only a small mark near the lower front hem, clearly shown in the photos.
A true grail-level Springboks piece and a cornerstone jersey for any serious Rugby World Cup or South Africa collection. Opportunities to acquire this jersey — especially in long sleeve — are exceptionally rare.
