This 1996 Malaysia long sleeve rugby jersey is a rare and unusual piece from a rugby minnow nation, produced in far smaller numbers than jerseys from traditional rugby powers. Made by Canterbury (CCC), it features a bold horizontal stripe design in red, white, gold and navy, finished with Malaysia’s distinctive crest on the chest.
During the mid-1990s, national team jerseys from emerging rugby nations were typically manufactured in very limited quantities, often for domestic use and regional competition only. As a result, original Malaysia jerseys from this era are seldom seen today, making this an intriguing collector piece for those who appreciate the broader global story of rugby.
Condition is fair to good, with visible flaws that are clearly reflected in the price. The white panel on the front shows some marking, and there is a red dye run on the back of one sleeve, consistent with age and use. These issues are cosmetic and do not detract from the jersey’s structural integrity.
Tagged an XXL, this is a large, true-to-size fit, typical of mid-1990s Canterbury long sleeve jerseys.
A genuinely uncommon international jersey that highlights rugby beyond the traditional heartlands.
