This circa 1992 Springboks player-issue rugby jersey is a fascinating piece from South Africa’s return to international rugby in the early 90’s. Made by Maxmore, this jersey features the classic Springbok crest and traditional green and gold colourway associated with the period.
While it is not a Test match jersey, the construction and details clearly indicate player use. The cut sleeves are typical of player-worn jerseys from this era, and the number style and absence of sponsor logos do not align with Springboks Test jerseys worn at the time. Because of this, it is most likely that this jersey was used in a training environment or at a level below the full Test side, potentially within a Springboks A or representative squad setup.
The jersey is in very good condition, with the fabric and embroidery holding up well for its age. Made in South Africa, Maxmore Springboks jerseys from this transitional period are increasingly hard to find, especially in confirmed player-issue form.
A rare and honest piece of early-1990s Springbok rugby history, ideal for collectors.
